 UPDATE REQUIRED -
Microsoft Releases Critical Security Update to Windows.
Microsoft pushed out an out of band
update this week to patch a windows worm vulnerability. This
security update addresses a vulnerability in the Server service
which could allow remote code execution through a remote procedure
calls (RPC) request. "On Microsoft Windows 2000,
Windows XP, and Windows Server 2003 systems, an attacker could exploit
this vulnerability without authentication to run arbitrary code. It is
possible that this vulnerability could be used in the crafting of a
wormable exploit." The update is rated as critical for 2003
and prior operating systems and important for newer versions. As
always, firewall settings and antivirus software are critical in
helping protect against malicious code. The update is discussed
in Microsoft
Security Bulletin MS08-67. All users are urged to
