Microsoft SharePoint Services
What is
SharePoint?
SharePoint is a web-based application that
streamlines communications between your internal users, your business
partners and external clients. It provides safe and secure document
management with versioning control. It is also frequently used as a
web-based project management system. And because it is tightly
integrated with Microsoft's Office products such as Word, Excel, and
Outlook, it is familiar and easy to use from day one.
How can you
use it?
Because it is web-based SharePoint simplifies the sharing of information via the web safely and securely. As an example, let's say a Business user creates a proposal that needs to be reviewed by colleagues prior to sending it out to a client.
-
Old Way: A user creates the proposal and attaches it to an email. Each reviewer receive a separate copy to review and comment on. The author must then must manage the separate copies of the document, versions, and communicate subsequent changes to all reviewers.
-
SharePoint way: A user creates a proposal and posts the document to a secure webpage. SharePoint automatically sends an alert to reviewers with a link to the document. Reviewers can provide feedback via a webpage and SharePoint automatically tracks the changes to the document. The author of the document is notified automatically of each change by SharePoint. If a problem arises, the author has the ability to revert to any prior version of the document.
